Dr. Farzana Hossain is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, since January 2024. Prior to this, she held the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Primeasia University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, from December 2022 until January 2024.
Dr. Farzana has contributed to the academic community as a Visiting Foreign Researcher at the Graduate School of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan, during the period from October 2023 to January 2024, where she conducted research on Cholera Toxin utilizing mammalian cell lines.
She worked as a postdoctoral research fellow for 2 years in the Nanomaterials Research Division at Shizuoka University, Japan. Her research work was directed towards elucidating the mechanisms by which antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) interact with single vesicles and single living bacterial cells through the application of “single-cell analysis,” while also considering their dependence on membrane potential.
Dr. Farzana obtained her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Bioscience at Shizuoka University, Japan (Biophysics lab), where she elucidated the significance of membrane potential in the bactericidal efficacy of AMPs and CPP-type AMPs. She earned her B.Sc. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Microbiology at the University of Dhaka, where she was honored with the Dean's Award for her outstanding academic performance by the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
Throughout her research career, she has disseminated her research findings through the publication of numerous research and review articles in esteemed peer-reviewed journals.
